Can I appear before the Appeals Board

The Appeals Board can invite applicants for international protection and applicants for residence permit on humanitarian grounds to appear before the Board to clarify and expand on aspects of his or her case.

The decision to invite appellants to appear before the Board is normally taken after the appellant has submitted his or her brief to the Board.

Normally, appellants attend the hearing with their lawyers who will guide the appellants through the process. The Board will endeavour to ensure the appellant can communicate in a language he or she can understand and speak adequately. If necessary, interpretation will be provided. If the appellant speaks and understands English, the hearing will take place in that language.
